St Mary’s is the magnificent pre-Reformation church on the banks of the River Tyne where John Knox trained as a priest. It was half destroyed in the “Rough Wooing” in 1548 but was restored to its full glory in 1973. It is of cathedral scale and is the longest parish church in Scotland, with fine stained glass windows.
Printed guides in English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish are available as well as interpretive panels of the Siege of Haddington and of historic changes in St Mary’s, including the 1970’s restoration.
