The town of Tranent lies approximately 10 miles from Edinburgh and was once a key mining town.

Today there is a good mix of shops on the High Street, as well as larger supermarkets and a leisure centre.

What to see and do...

  • The Loch Centre is a multi sport leisure centre including a swimming pool and, for those with younger children.  Wiggles the soft play centre is also located inside.
  • 1722 Tranent - Cockenzie Waggonway - walk or cycle the site of Scotland's oldest railway.


Pencaitland lies between Haddington and Tranent, an attractive village with park, bowling green and village pub.  In the centre lies the magnificent Winton Castle home to the Ogilvy Family.  The house hosts a number of events throughout the year and offers corporate functions and events.

What to see and do...

  • Take a walk through the Winton Estate - there are a number of walking routes laid out.
  • Glenkinchie Distillery is located a couple of miles outside of the village.  Home of the Edinburgh malt, the distillery is open all year round.
